There is no specific information available in history about Bindusara. But today we are going to tell you something about Bindusara's life here.
Bindusara was the second Mauryan ruler in India. He was the son of Chandragupta, the founder of the Maurya Empire and also the father of Emperor Ashoka, the greatest ruler of the Maurya Empire. Bindusara's life was no more famous than the life of Chandragupta and Emperor Ashoka.
Many information related to Bindusara was also known from historical sources more than 100 years after his death. Bindusara ruled the Maurya Empire established by his father.
Former life
Ancient and medieval sources have not even shown Bindusara's life in detail in his documents. A lot of information related to his life was obtained from the Jain and Buddha Mahamanavas, whose focus was exclusively on Ashoka and Chandragupta.
Jain Mahamanas such as Hemachandra Appendix Parvana wrote about Bindusara thousands of years after his death.
In the writings of Buddha experts we get a glimpse of Bindusara's life while studying the life of Ashoka. But that information is not enough to know the life character of Bindusara. Most of Bindusara's life has been elaborated by Buddha Mahamanavo in his writings. But Bindusara's life was described thousands of years after his death.
According to Buddhist sources, the details of Bindusara's life include Divyavadana, Deepavansa, Mahavamsa, Vasanthappakasini, Samanthapasadika and Taranath written in the 16th century.
Jain sources include Parvana, an appendix of the 12th century, and a Rajavali-Katha written by Devachandra in the 19th century. In Hindu Purana, Bindusara is described as a Mauryan ruler.
Parents -
Bindusara was born as the son of Chandragupta Maurya, the ruler of the Maurya Empire. This information is found in the Puranas and Mahavamsa.
Chandragupta was tied up in a matrimonial bond with the Seleucids and for this reason it was speculated that Bindusara's mother was not Greek. But there is no historical document of this matter. According to the 12th century Jain writer Hemachandra Parishisht Parvana, Bindusara's mother's name was Durdhara.
Death
Ihtasic documents indicate that Bindusara died in 270 BCE. According to Upinder Singh, Bindusara died in about 273 BCE. Alain Denilou believes that he died in 274 BCE.
Shailendra Nath Sen believes that he died in 273–272 BCE and Bindusara’s son Ashoka became ruler in 269–268 BCE after a bitter struggle four years after his death.
In history, Bindusara is called "father's son and son's father" because he was the son of Chandragupta Maurya and father of Emperor Ashoka the Great.
After Chandragupta Maurya, the founder of the Maurya Empire, Bindusara was the successor of the Maurya Empire. And at the same time, Bindusara also gave birth to the emperor Ashoka, the great ruler of Indian history. He expanded his kingdom to the south.
